ToyotaCare Explained

ToyotaCare comes standard with every new Toyota, and it’s genuinely useful, but it’s also widely misunderstood. Some owners think it covers everything for two years. Others forget they have it at all and pay out of pocket for services that were already included. This page explains exactly what ToyotaCare covers, what it doesn’t, how long it lasts, and what to do when it expires, so new Toyota owners in Albany, Cordele, Tifton, Americus, Leesburg, Sylvester, and Dawson get every bit of value out of it.
What ToyotaCare Actually Covers
ToyotaCare is a no-cost maintenance plan included with the purchase or lease of every new Toyota. It runs for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and covers the factory-scheduled maintenance your vehicle needs during that window.
- Oil and filter changes – Performed at Toyota’s recommended intervals with the correct oil specification for your engine.
- Tire rotations – Scheduled alongside your maintenance visits to keep tread wearing evenly.
- Multi-point inspections – A full walkthrough of brakes, belts, hoses, suspension, and safety systems at each visit.
- Fluid level inspection and adjustment – Coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid, and power steering fluid checked and topped as needed.
- Cabin and engine air filter inspection – Checked at scheduled intervals, with replacement recommended when needed.
Alongside the maintenance plan, ToyotaCare includes 24-hour roadside assistance for 2 years with unlimited mileage. That covers towing, battery jump starts, lockout service, flat tire changes with your spare, emergency fuel delivery, and help if you get stuck. The unlimited mileage part matters: even if you cross 25,000 miles and the maintenance plan ends, roadside stays active through the full two years.
What ToyotaCare Does Not Cover
The most common confusion around ToyotaCare is that it’s a warranty. It isn’t. It covers scheduled maintenance, not repairs, and it doesn’t cover parts that wear out through normal use.
Not included: brake pads and rotors, wiper blades, tires, batteries, filters that need replacement rather than inspection, and any fluid replacement outside the factory schedule. Also excluded is anything caused by damage, collision, road hazards, or misuse, along with unscheduled repairs of any kind. Those fall under your Toyota factory warranty or standard service pricing depending on the situation.
Wheel alignments are another one owners assume is covered. Alignment is a correction, not scheduled maintenance, so it’s billed separately when your vehicle needs it.
How to Activate and Use ToyotaCare
There’s nothing to activate. ToyotaCare is applied automatically when you take delivery of a new Toyota, tied to your VIN and your in-service date. You don’t register, enroll, or pay anything.
Using it is just as simple. Schedule a service appointment, tell the advisor your vehicle is under ToyotaCare, and covered services are performed at no charge. Bring your vehicle in at the intervals Toyota specifies, generally every 5,000 miles or six months, and each visit is logged in your service history automatically.
For roadside assistance, the number is in your owner’s packet and in the Toyota app. Coverage applies anywhere in the continental United States, which is worth knowing before a long drive.
What Happens When ToyotaCare Expires
At 2 years or 25,000 miles, the complimentary maintenance ends and you begin paying for scheduled service. Nothing else changes: your factory warranty continues on its own separate terms, and your vehicle’s maintenance schedule stays the same.
This is the point where a lot of owners quietly fall behind on service, and it’s the worst time to do it. Miles 25,000 through 60,000 are when brake wear, fluid condition, and tire replacement start entering the picture. Our Express Maintenance service is built for exactly this stage, handling oil changes, rotations, and inspections without an appointment and usually while you wait.
Toyota also offers extended maintenance plans that can be added to keep prepaid service running past the ToyotaCare window. If you plan to keep your Toyota long term or drive high annual mileage, it’s worth asking about pricing before your coverage runs out.
Getting the Most Out of Your Coverage
Two years passes faster than most owners expect, and unused ToyotaCare visits don’t carry forward. A few habits make sure nothing gets left on the table:
- Set a reminder at six-month or 5,000-mile intervals rather than waiting for a dashboard alert.
- Track mileage if you drive a lot. High-mileage drivers often hit 25,000 miles well before the two-year mark and lose the maintenance benefit early.
- Use every inspection. Even when nothing needs replacing, the multi-point inspection catches developing issues while they’re still cheap to address.
- Keep your service history with the dealership so records stay consolidated for warranty claims and eventual resale.
